Landing page - and now for the fishes?

OK… so I have my landing page at http://www.bnoob.com - but where do I get the fishes from? How can I get any nibbles if I don’t have any fishes?

I’m planning on making a youtube video in the next couple of days… maybe that’ll help drive me into deeper oceans :)

Startup uncertainty and doubt

Every day I think about startups (no exaggeration).

I’ve been working on an android app but then I’m uncertain about my idea. It’s something which everyone could benefit from - but it’s not something that you’d use every day, it’s more for people thinking in their long term best interest and only using it once in a while.

I have so many ideas - I have photogalleri.es which was going to be a site where you can make your own photogallery. I started this but haven’t finished it. I’ve got handupfor - which is a twitter voting app which I worked on with a friend from work, but yet we haven’t got it live yet.

It’s frustrating not knowing what to do - which idea to go for. I start, and then I become distracted somehow. I keep telling myself not to be distracted, I know I have to focus - but I’m afraid that I’m focusing on the wrong thing…

It’s crazy, but yet I still can’t think about anything else but making it out there, producing something that people want and will use.

I know the formula:

Pick a Goal  ->  Work backwards  -> Solve the pain

What I mean by this is to decide what to do, find people to validate that you should indeed do this, get people signed up before anything is built, and then go and build it.

This is just something I’m making up, but I think it makes a lot of sense. The best ideas are the ones that solve an everyday pain in an efficient and effective way. You know when it’s going well - as you have people buzzing about it, they love it. I’ve had this before.

Still… I don’t know what to do… which idea to focus on. What I do know though is that people who are persistent usually shine through and achieve their goals :)

Airbnb’s Global Growth (airbnb.com)

Airbnb is indeed growing at a very nice rate. I’ve been lucky to be able to be take part in Airbnb’s growth -being both a guest and a Host.

It’s a great way to make some money, meet some people (we’ve made friends from our guests!).

They’ve also just opened up an office in Shoreditch in London and to celebrate they’re throwing a party (next Thursday - and yes I’m going along :)).

I also had a great time last Sunday when we went on a treasure hunt. It’s simple things that companies do that make you loyal - and Airbnb know how to have a lot of fun!

Apple employs slave labour to make your iphone

Slave Labour in China

Did you know that Apple employs 13 year olds to build your iphones, and that these Chinese workers often lose proper control of their hands from performing the same manufacturing step over and over again?

Shame on Apple, and other companies which don’t give a shit about the little people who are building up company profits.

I understand that workers in 3rd world countries might get paid considerably less than what we’d get, as it gives these countries a competitive advantage over others, it provides them with employment, and allows parents to feed their children.

What I can’t forgive though is a lack of inhumane treatment of workers, where toxic substances aren’t handled in a safe manner, and workers aren’t provided with appropriate medical care when they need it.

Shame on you Apple.

$$ How to make more money in the new year $$

Here’s the top five solutions for achieving those money making goals in 2012:

  1. Get HEALTHY and EARN MONEY at http://www.healthrally.com/ - A brilliant site where you nominate your friend / spouse / yourself to achieve a goal and get your friends and family to pitch in and give you some money for meeting it!

  2. FUND your PASSION at  http://www.kickstarter.com/  - A crowd sourcing website where you post your project idea, and get the crowd to pay you to do it! Eligible ideas are based around creative projects such as making a documentary / photographic exhibition or creating a board game.

  3. CREATE your DREAM product at http://www.quirky.com/learn  - Quirky lets you design and promote your products which (if they like it) will be produced by quirky and sold to mass market consumers! It only costs $10 to get started, but given that great idea, you could be on a rollercoaster to  some easy cash!

  4. PUBLISH your own BOOK with Amazon’s CreateSpace (https://www.createspace.com/) or Lulu (  http://www.lulu.com/- Amazon’s CreateSpace and Lulu both allow you to easily get your book printed and out to market. You don’t need anything except for your pc/mac and a keyboard! They’ll cover the printing, putting your book out to market, and you’ll get the profit after Amazon/Lulu cover their costs. What could be easier?

  5. START your own COMPANY via a startup weekend event e.g. http://theleanstartupmachine.com/http://startupweekend.org/http://launch48.com - These types of events are springing up all over the place, and with motivated developers, business people, marketing professionals, these events are pumping out new startups all the time. The weekends arranged by these organisations are not only great fun, but you can make friends, and gain valuable contacts, and of course work together to create the next up and coming startup company!
